A Wedding with 25000 Jews from around the world

It was a traditional Orthodox Jewish weddings it has two parts: The "kiddushin" or "erusin," in which the groom gives a wedding ring to the bride, and the "nisuin," which is the actual wedding ceremony, when the vows are spoken under a outdoor canopy called a "chuppah."

The 19-year-old bride, Hannah Batya Penet, wore a traditional white wedding dress made of lace and encrusted with pearls and crystals. Female relatives led her into the ceremony. Though the bride was surrounded by thousands of well-wishers.

She wore a heavy veil throughout the ceremony, keeping her face hidden from her guests.About 25,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews from around the world attended the event, which took place in Jerusalem on Tuesday, May 21.

The veil also has modern significance: If the groom places it over her face himself, then it symbolizes the fact that he values her for more than just her beauty.The groom, 18-year-old Shalom Rokeach, is the only grandson of Chief Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach, the leader of the Belz Rebbe, an ancient Jewish dynasty that began in Poland in 1817.
